A love letter to Mr. Robot

Dear Mr. Robot,

Your show keeps me on my toes. I loved season one, and I’m currently watching season two, but can’t get past the first few episodes. I keep replaying the first episode of season two over and over, trying my best to grasp what’s going on. The complexity, mixed with the subtleties is blowing me away. The characters are nowhere near simple. Their motives, their backstory, or even if they’re actual real people or not—it’s all just a big cluster of emotions that I can’t get enough of.

The nerd in me loves the tech and the hacker side of the show. The writer in me loves layers of storylines to follow (Elliot, the main character, talks to me—the audience—as if I’m inside of the show with him. He knows I’m there, and decisions could be made based on that point alone). The film-lover in me loves the suspense and cast. The underdog in me loves that USA is behind this, not HBO or Netflix, but USA. It feels so cool to say that.

What I’m trying to say is, thank you. Thank you for breaking down barriers. Thank you for making a show about gadgets and technology interesting. Thank you for never going with cliche plot points and structure. I truly never know what to expect. And even with all of the praise you’re getting, I still feel like you’re under-appreciated.
