I found this hour-long John Mayer documentary on YouTube this morning. I enjoyed every minute of it. It’s a story about passion, finding yourself (in life and in music), and using the skills you’ve mastered to create something you love.
If you’re a fan of John Mayer, this is a must watch for you. If you’re not a fan, or you’ve never really listened to his music, this documentary is the perfect starting point for you.
The highlight for me was following the process of each album, especially Continuum, which could very well be my favorite album of all time.
Here’s some quotes from the video that I really enjoyed:
Playing music, for me, is as close to having to having superpowers as you can have.
My driving force is my anxiety.
You know the weirdest thing in the world is, I used to be at home in my bedroom, and pretending I was on stage, and now I’m on stage and I pretend I’m home in my bedroom.
The biggest mistake I made that costed me a lot of enjoyment in my life was assuming that everybody cared. They don’t.
