Sure, I hoped for the best, but a beatdown was damn near expected. We were 3-1 through the first four games, but we played complacent enough to lose each one of those—so it was no surprise to see the undefeated Warriors embarrass us Wednesday night.
Golden State is playing like they’re from another planet right now, especially when compared to the stagnant Clippers, who’s offense has no motion, the ball is sticking, Blake Griffin is playing hero ball, and Chris Paul is being too passive when we need his scoring the most. And that’s just on the offensive end.
I can’t make this any clearer: the Clippers just aren’t playing good basketball right now. Their next stretch of games, even though most are at home, those games will be brutal. They’re up against teams that could easily do the same thing that the Warriors did. If we’re struggling against the depleted Thunder and the YMCA Lakers, what do you think will happen when we play teams that are gearing up for contention (like the Warriors)?
I hope to see some improvements from this team soon. I’ll be looking for better cohesiveness on the offense end, and we also need much better defense across the board. There’s lots of work to do, but the season is still young. I expect things to turn around sooner rather than later.
