Computing Needs a Reboot
Computing these days is like a junkyard. Apps and services all vying to be recognized as a unique kind of garbage. Platform vendors have given up any pretense of trying to create a system to help me manage everything, and barely direct me where to dump my latest pile of stuff.— Ken Kocienda (@kocienda) May 19, 2022
Let’s see: email, slack, imessage, signal, twitter, instagram, gdocs, keynote, powerpoint, adobe, figma, nuclino, jira, github, dropbox, gdrive, zoom, meet, teams, spotify, overcast, youtube, netflix, appletv+, disney+, …, personal/work versions for many & accounts for them all.— Ken Kocienda (@kocienda) May 19, 2022
It’s up to me to drive my laptop and phone dumptrucks through everything, making paths through the piles of garbage to find where I’ve put things so I can find them again later and turn them over and then share them back out to other people.— Ken Kocienda (@kocienda) May 19, 2022
